The Urban Youth Choir festival will be September 5th-7th 2013. Apart from Joakim Arenius the festival will also present Swedish artist Syster Sol plus singers and musicians from all over the world.

Back to Toral
The famous spanish camp for modern christian music at Toral, near the spanish city of Léon, will once again be visited by Joakim. The camp is first of all for spanish singers and musicians, but people from any country are welcome.

Christmas video

We are working on a full Christmas CD, but this year we release only a teaser with four songs -classic Christmas songs arranged and performed Praise Unit style. It will be available at the concerts on our Christmas tour, from the online store on this website and at the store "Din Bok" in Örebro. Christmas EP

No more teaching?
After 19 years Joakim quit his job as music teacher at Karolinska skolan, Örebro. Now comes a time for more focus on workshops, composing music, producing CD's and maybe some new projects!?!? Teaching is very dear to Joakim, and he is still doing it, but not at one singular school.

New York again
In October 2012 there is a group of 55 people who will enjoy the city that never sleep together with Joakim. It is an inspirational tour for people who wish to learn more about the music of the african american churches in New York. Joakim will be the tour guide and the week will be full of sight seeing, but even more visiting Joakim's friends in the african american churches.

Joybells celebration!
The oldest gospel choir of Europe, "Joybells", which Joakim directed for eight years, celebrates 50 years in 2013! The celebration concert will be in Örebro, Sweden, May 11th 2013. Members from all the way back to 1963 will participate.

Gospel at Frizon
The Frizon festival, where Joakim has performed with Praise Unit several times, has been known more for their rock oriented artists. But over the years the music has become more diverse. This year one special guest was Marlo Hogue from South Carolina, USA, who shared her beautiful soulful southern gospel music together with her performing group. Joakim had the privilige to travel with them for a few days and after this more music can be expected from Marlo (a.k.a. Radiant) and Joakim together.

Europa Cantat
Joakim's workshop with urban (modern, contemporary) gospel at the big Europa Cantat festival in Torino resulted in a concert at Piazza San Carlo with thousands in the audience. The choir had members from Switzerland, Lathvia, Germany, France, USA, Spain and Italy. Together with Joakim they rocked Thorino with songs like "Grab the sun", "Free will", the new accapella song "Inspired" and many more.

New swedish musical
Lennart Edberg from the western part of Sweden wrote a musical about the book of Ruth from the bible. The songs are inspired from swedish folkmusic and hymns. Joakim was priviliged to record and produce the CD-version of this musical, and in just a few weeks it will be on the market.

First songbook, then CD?
There has been some confusion the fact that the "Inspired" songbook is out and available, but there is no CD to listen to. The CD will be available soon, but some things still has to be done before the songs can leave the studio and reach the listener.

Schedule in Spain 2012
Joakim will work with spanish gospel choirs from March 1st-June 1st. A more detailed schedule will be available under tour dates soon. So far this swedish/spanish gospel project includes choirs from Valencia, Castilla La Mancha, Madrid, Leon, Zaragoza and dates are available for more choirs.

News for the new year
At the end of 2011 Joakim notes some frustration -the Christmas CD with Praise Unit was postponed, and the teen musical with Oslo Soul Teens was cancelled. But the new year seems to have a lot of exciting things to present -the Christmas CD with Praise Unit will be released (and available already at summer festivals across Europe), the teen musical has found new singers (exciting news about this to come soon), the new workshop CD and songbook "Inspired", will be presented in the beginning of the year and Joakim will live in Valencia, Spain, for three months to minister through music together with the spanish gospel choirs!

Christmas in Örebro
December 17th Joakim will direct some of the students from his school, Karolinska skolan, when they sing in his hometown Örebro. The venue is Conventum Arena and the event is a touring Christmas concept with some of Sweden's most popular artists from different genres.

Preview of Praise Unit Christmas and "Inspired" songbook
The first weekend of December 2011 Joakim does a Christmas workshop in Witten, Germany. The mass choir will sing some songs from the upcoming Praise Unit CD, which means this will be the first official performance of these songs. The mass choir will also sing some songs from "Inspired", the new songbook/CD which will soon be released from Creative Kirche.

Urban Gospel at Europa Cantat festival

Joakim moves to Spain

East and west come together
In October 2011 the first Russian gospel choir "Total Praise" visited Sweden for one concert together with Praise Unit in Stockholm, and one concert together with Praise Unit and American Gospel Impact Radio talent show winner Bryan Pound. The merge of cultures and singing styles was an inspiration to the artists as well as the listeners. There will be more to come!

Praise Unit Christmas CD will be out in 2012
The recordings have already started and there are eight Christmas classics in Praise Unit style ready for CD, but it will not be available until Christmas 2012. There were too many problems during the preparations this year, so it has been decided it is best for everybody to wait one year. Keep your eyes open one year from now!

Musical change again
Recent news on this website was that the Oslo Soul Teens musical, had a name change -"Loved". The new change is that the whole project is cancelled. ACTA, the norwegian administrator of the musical, has other plans. There will still be a musical, but of a different kind. Praise Unit without Praise Unit concert
Like 2010 there will be two weeks of singing and playing for Praise Unit at Löttorp Camping on Öland, Sweden. But this year the singers and musicians will only serve to back up other artists and lead worship in the services. Last year there was also a Praise Unit concert, but this year that is not going to happen. Maybe there will be a few Praise Unit songs played, but not in the usual setting. The two last weeks of July is your chance to meet with Praise Unit at Löttorp.

"The battle of the choirs" is a popular TV-show in many countries, where a celebrity uses local singers from his or her hometown to form a choir and compete against other choirs. Let everything that has breath...
On March 13th the Sunday morning service in Immanuelskyrkan (the Church of Immanuel), in Örebro, will be choir music from beginning to end. Not just from the stage, but including all church visitors. Joakim is the coordinating music minister for the service.

Club gigs
Praise Unit always tried to make music that would fit in the clubs as well as churches. Because of the "gospel music" label there have been mostly concerts in churches, but lately the number of club gigs have increased. Debaser in Stockholm and Fritz Club in Berlin are some recent gigs, and in March 2011 Praise Unit will play at the legendary Fasching.

Rights to perform with singback CD
Every now and then we get emails from people who bought a Praise Unit singback CD and ask for permission to record a concert. As long as you don't record it and sell it to make profit it is ok to document the concert. We are just glad that the music we recorded can be used to make people happy and we have no problem with letting you keep a memory of your own concert.

First workshop weekend in Russia
Joakim will travel to St Petersburg in the beginning of December to meet some great choirs and make music. It will be Joakim's first visit to Russia since he was there with Joybells in 2002, and the first workshop with Russian singers!

Joakim Arenius is nominated for his cultural achievements in Sweden
"Nerikes Allehandas kulturpris" is a Swedish award that goes to somebody who has had an impact on the community through his or her work in music, theatre, arts, dance or literature. For 2009 Joakim Arenius is one of five nominees.

Camp Toral in Spain
For nine days will Joakim Arenius join spanish singers and musicians in the north west of Spain for a contemporary music camp. Some of Joakims songs will be sung in spanish.

US tour dates
Joakim Arenius & Praise Unit will be in Gateway Cathedral, Staten Island on June 13th, Greater Allen Cathedral in Queens on June 15th. Within a few days the complete list of venues for the US tour in June will be published.

The new CD with songs written by Joakim Arenius will be in stores very soon! There are songs performed by Praise Unit, Joybells, German Gospel Choir and others. "An offer I can't refuse" with Sarah Kelly is one of new songs on this compilation.

Warder Gospel festival

Next year (which is in a couple of days) there will be more tour dates added. There will be more concert dates for Sweden, Germany, Spain and hopefully Denmark added within a week or two.
